End Grain Balsa Core
Description
End grain balsa is a natural core material with an excellent combination of mechanical performance, value for money and sustainability. This core uses the fact that wood is stronger along the grain than across it by orienting the grain of the balsa vertically though the sheet to achieve the best compressive performance. It has a compressive strength of 12.8MPa making it one of the highest strength-to-weight ratio composite core materials available
The core is supplied in sheets made up of individual 50x50mm blocks with a scrim backing. This makes the sheets easy to form around single curvatures and allows excellent resin transmission in infusion and resin transfer moulding processes. It is compatible with all common resin systems.
This end grain balsa is manufactured from sustainable sources and are managed to both reduce environmental impact and to support bio-diversity. Typical applications include reactional equipment (such as snowboards), marine hulls, decks and floors, motorsport body panels and architectural panels.
