Pultruded Carbon Fibre Hexagonal Tube
Description
This high performance pultruded carbon fibre hexagonal tube is manufactured to tight tolerances using high strength carbon fibre and an epoxy resin matrix. Although less commonly used than round tubes, hexagonal tubes are uniquely suited to applications where other components are to be attached during assembly as their flat sides provide an excellent surface for binding or mounting other parts.
Pultrusion is a method of manufacturing continuous lengths of fibre reinforced section by pulling continuous strands of carbon fibre through resin and a former before curing the resin all in one process. Pultruded tubes have 100% longitudinal fibre orientation which gives them excellent strength along their length but makes them vulnerable to crushing forces. For applications where crushing or non-uniform forces are experienced, roll wrapped carbon fibre tubes should be considered as an alternative.
Typical applications include radio controlled models, electronics, UAVs, robotics, engineering and automation. If you have a requirement for machined or finished carbon fibre components please ask the Plastock team for more information.
