Rohacell 71 IG-F PMI Foam Core
Description
Rohacell 71 IG-F is a high performance PMI (polymethacrylimide) foam with a very fine closed-cell structure. This closed-cell foam only takes up resin in the exposed cut cells at the surface, preventing excess resin infiltrating further into the foam and resulting in a very low surface resin consumption. When compared to closed-cell PVC foam, PMI foam has better mechanical properties (c 15% higher compressive strength), higher processing temperatures and a much lower resin consumption.
Rohacell IG-F foam is compatible with all common resin systems including epoxy, vinyl ester and polyester. It is easily machined, milled and cut using conventional tools designed for wood or plastic, and thinner sheets can be cut by hand. Radii down to twice the sheet thickness can be moulded using thermoforming at around 180°C (where the foam becomes thermoplastic).
We supply Rohacell IG-F in two densities, 31 IG-F at 32kg/m³ and 71 IG-F at 75kg/m³. The 31 is usually used with skins under 0.5mm in lightweight applications. The 71 has almost three times the mechanical strength and stiffness of the 31 and is ideal for heavier loaded panels with thicker skins such as floors, decks and chassis elements. Typical applications for this foam include aerospace, automotive, medical, marine, wind power technologies and recreation and sporting goods.
